“It is the life of the crystal, the architect of the flake, the fire of the frost, the soul of the sunbeam. This crisp winter air is full of it.”

~ John Burroughs, Winter Sunshine

{i don’t know who john burroughs is, but i need to read his book because it seems to be full of the most marvelous thoughts about winter.}

{this photo comes to you courtesy of an old truck, sunshine, and snowflakes. i am so loving finding the magic in winter.}

    John Burroughs was a brilliant and wildly popular 19thC naturalist and writer from the Catskills. Much like John Muir, but he wrote about the intimate experiences of nature rather than the grand ones, which is maybe why he’s less known today. Well worth tracking him down, and thanks for the quote! Well be sharing it today on a radio program called Localore on wioxradio.org…we’re talking snow today!

    Helen & Amy: Thank you!!

    Leigh: Oh! Thank you! I love that he was a naturalist. And “intimate experiences of nature” sounds right up my alley. I will look him up for sure. Hope you had a great show!
