the evolution of a photo

May 8, 2013

remember when i told you that there were all those cute agreeable good-natured dogs posing happily for their people in the tulip fields and mine wasn’t one of them?

in the first two photos, atlas was attempting to rush me. in the last three, i tried to make him stop and stand still, just for a second, so he looked everywhere but at me while trying to sneak by me anyway.

can you see the spray of drool in the last photo? that’s how quickly he moved his head past me. he really is a creature of movement. i wonder if this is a weim thing.

by the way, all of this took place in less than three minutes. i need the arm strength of an amazon and the speed of a jungle cat to live with this dog. i have the first. clearly i’m still working on the second.

i was actually going to title this post the evolution of  a nickname until i saw these photos.

why? yesterday, atlas acquired a new nickname: waffles.

wondering how on earth he got that one? easy. it went from woof-y to wuffy to wuffles to ruffles (have ridges) back to wuffles to waffles.

  1. Waffles… I LOVE that! (The nickname, and real waffles too–LOL!) These images of Atlas are beautiful… there’s a certain grace to his posture, even if it does look like he’s trying to hurry you. ;o) Happy Day ((HUGS))

The arm strength of an amazon brings to mind a memory of me holding atlas’ leash and him going from sitting calmly to without warning massively and powerfully lunging after you (i think you were leaving us) and me losing a fingernail in the process but holding him back…i must have that arm strength 😉

  3. priceless!!!
i’m already looking forward to my calendar of atlas next year! LOL.
    and the drool is perfect.
    xoxoxo hug him for me.
whether he’ll stand still for it or not!

  4. Your photos are so cool! And a field of tulips? Gorgeous!

  5. When I first looked at the last picture, I thought there was something on my screen and tried to wipe it off.

  6. Pictures give as a digital view of an analog world.

I just realized that there are two meanings to rush, and both of them fit. I really meant to say that he was moving toward me. I was lying on my back in the field (I was trying to find a way to make the tree on the left side disappear), which is not the best position for dog-management. :)

    • That’s so funny, Elizabeth! I was just sitting here thinking, “hmmm…Atlas doesn’t have the same ‘hurry up already!’ face that my girls do!”

  8. Love the story that goes along with the photos! Beautiful colors and images. I like the way his personality shows through! Tulips and waffles… might be a good blog post title too :)

  9. Oh, the drool cracked me up! I hafta say, he does look seriously happy in a couple of these, even tho I know it was a split second of pose! And I also hafta say, manly and handsome as he is, he looks kinda pretty in pink!

Patty: He does look pretty in pink! Hahaha! That’s the name of a tulip card set. I think I might need to make it the name of an Atlas set. Hahaha!

Sheila: OH! That would’ve been a good title!

Sherron: You’ll have to post a picture of that face, and I can check if Atlas has it. (He might pass too quickly from “hurry up” to “I’m done and leaving you”.

Kirsten: Thank you! I feel lucky to live near it.

Tammy: I shall attack him with a hug shortly. Haha.

Helen: I do not remember that particular instance – with the fingernail – but I can imagine it, since I’ve seen so many of them. :)

Tracy: I love real waffles too. Every time I say it, I want some.
