you’re noticed, you matter, you’re worthy

elizabethhalt.com | you're noticed, you matter, you're worthy

i have a collection of lake superior stones in my bedroom that my tiny nephew-friend ben thinks of as his stones. one day in december, we spent hours in the bedroom playing with them. we put them in rows; we made cars & trucks out of them; and then we made them into snowmen.

there was this one moment where i got a little teary because i could tell how much he was enjoying having my undivided attention and i couldn’t help thinking that that’s all any of us want: for someone else to give us their time + attention + appreciation + focus.

we’re all constantly asking – without ever asking at all – whether we’re noticed, whether we matter, whether we’re worthy.

(which we are. of course we are. but sometimes we need to be reminded.)

“…i couldn’t help thinking that that’s all any of us want: for someone else to give us their time + attention + appreciation + focus.”

Dogs figured that out long ago which is one reason they make such great companions.

  3. Beautiful, and so true. Thank you for providing all those beautiful reminders – that we are noticed and worthy and that we matter, yes, but also that we could think of asking explicitely when we need the reassurance, and also that in many situations, our time + attention + appreciation + focus are the best gifts we can give. (And long-winded me is completely in awe of the way you packed so much into those few short paragraphs!) <3

      You are so welcome.

(As a fellow long-winded writer, I usually surprise myself. Ha. Though I will say that is one tangible way I can see how my writing skills have improved over the years – in the time it takes to write something more concisely.)

  4. beautifully said Elizabeth. as always!
and that beautiful little blonde head.
made me think of times spent with my own beloved little nephew…
who is now a master sgt in special operations and stands 6 feet tall! to think that he shared with me once that “a dinosaur breathed on my hand!”
