you are doing a darn good job at being alive

August 2, 2013

i must confess that this year has quite possibly been my hardest year yet. for two entirely different reasons. but inspiration and intuition have not led me to talk about them, so i do not.

and yet, the hard has been full of its own particular beauty, and i would not wish it away. i find that i am filled with even more love for myself, my sense of worth is more solid, and i am more and more able to access joy & possibility & wonder in moments when i would have previously thought them well out of reach.

what i feel moved to say today is this:

be gentle with yourself. if and as you can.

it’s hard to be alive sometimes. but you are doing a darn good job at it.

  1. LOVE this, Elizabeth! Your posts this year have been very special and uplifting. “it’s hard to be alive sometimes…” It sure is! And like you, I find that some of the hardest times have a unique beauty…just getting through the hard parts is quite a thing. We can only do the best we can, and be kind to ourselves while we do. :o) ((HUGS))

  2. yes, the strength we find in the hard parts can be so beautiful. I was just popping in here to say I got the blue castle out of the library on your recommendation and it’s so good. Exactly the fairy tale I need at the moment.

  3. I absolutely love this…thank you for
    these whispered words of wisdom.
big peace to your beautiful heart,
    Jennifer

    Amy: I love you.

    Pauline: You are so welcome!

Tammy: Breathing that in. Thank you.

Jennifer: Oh, peace is just what I needed. Thank you for that.

Fiona: YAY!!! I am smiling hugely over here. So happy you are enjoying it!

Tracy: I love this reminder: “We can only do the best we can, and be kind to ourselves while we do.” It reminds me of that line from Oprah that I always like – when we know better, we do better – because it reminds me that in every moment, we really are always doing the best we can.
