where is my sun

February 23, 2013

i could really use a warm day on the beach right about now. (definitely not this beach. this beach is in michigan, covered in ice and snow.) fortunately, the sun came out for a while this morning, so atlas and i went for a nice walk.

what do you do when you miss the sun?

  1. there is a peculiar kind of day here.
it’s not cloudy. it’s bright white and extremely cold. it happens every now and then and is fairly common in the winter.
it’s like bright but no sun warmth. weird!
that’s when I close the blinds and light the little lamps in the corners. for that day I don’t give a hang about the extra electricity. it’s light for my soul.
then I put on a 1930’s movie ~ with stylish witty people like William Powell and Myrna Loy! . . . either the thin man or one of the ones they did before those. the I pop corn. and if I had a beloved Atlas watching with me and sharing the popcorn ~ well ~ nigh onto perfect!
    hugs to you dear Elizabeth!

  2. the best thing is to go walking. I almost never do that. I hunker down in a corner filled with pretty fabrics or colourful yarn. I read summer books (or any book) and drink tea by the pint. I also organise and titivate my spaces to make them seem fresh again. On really good days, I make an effort to wear nice clothes.
Wishing you luck with the dreariness!

  3. What gorgeous cool colors. There’s – somehow – warmth to that glittering light.

  4. The diamond sun sparkle on that water… BLISS! The sun is actually shining here for a change, but wish I was able to enjoy it more… we’ve been under the weather here with cold & flu bugs, so not venturing out much. :o( Hope the sun changes the blahs away there… ((HUGS))

Helen: Me too. I wish for warmth for both of us!

Tracy: I hope you’re feeling better soon! I also hope you have a couch near a window, where the sun can pour in on you while you’re resting.

Marcie: Thank you! It was golden hour, so maybe that’s why.

Fiona: Ooooh. I should read some of my Italy travel books. That would remind me of summer. Thank you for the idea! I like all your ideas – I am in the middle of organizing too. Atlas is not happy. As far as he’s concerned, things should stay where they are forever.

Tammy: I think I know that day! Not from here, exactly, but from Michigan. Thanks for the movie suggestions – off to look them up!
